Families FAQ's:
What is the application and approval procedure?
A couple submits their application to the Abba Father Fund along with all requested information, including a copy of their home study.
What’s the criteria to receive assistance?
The applicant must be a Christian couple, and need financial assistance in order to complete the adoption.

Are there income requirements?
Finances as well as many other factors are considered. We rely heavily on the adoption agencies background checks and home study.

What is the maximum amount a couple may request?
A family may request any amount of money, but there is no guarantee that it will be available. We hope to provide a minimum of $5,000-10,000.

Why is financial assistance referred to as a “covenant loan”?
We do not ask applicants to enter into a traditional legally binding note. Instead, we ask the couple to enter into a covenant agreement whereby they covenant to reimburse the Abba Father Fund in manageable monthly payments.

How do you handle broken “covenant loans”?
We work with a couple if they fall behind. If the couple should have difficulty with repayment, then the church will follow discipline procedure set out in scripture (Matthew 18).

What will the monthly reimbursement amount be?
The amount of your monthly reimbursement depends upon the total amount of financial assistance that you receive.

Can a family receive a financial commitment before beginning the adoption process?
The family needs to use its own resources to start the adoption application process and proceed through the home study stage.

How are funds dispersed?
The fund makes payments directly to the family after they are approved and available.

Do we have to use the money from the federal adoption tax credit to reimburse the fund?
You may use any means available to reimburse the fund. The adoption tax credit is a convenient source of funds to use for reimbursement, and we strongly encourage our applicants to do so.

Does the fund only give loans to church members?
The fund seeks to make loans available for any qualified applicant in the Hattiesburg area and surrounding counties.

Will you help other churches in developing a similar fund?
The fund would love to see churches across the state and country develop funds of their own, and we are willing to educate churches on how to do so.

Does the fund give loans to singles?
We recognize that God’s biblical model of a family includes both a father and a mother. Accordingly, the Abba Father Fund makes its adoption assistance resources in the general loan fund available only to married Christian couples.
